FACTS
Most of us has got Blood Pressure checked at least once in our life. Either machine or doctor records two different numbers. One is greater than the other. The higher reading (SYSTOLIC) is the highest pressure on the arteries when heart contracts and pushes blood through the arteries to the rest of our body. The lower reading (DIASTOLIC) is the measure of the pressure on the arteries when the heart rests between beats.
According to prof Bryan Williams, the director of NIHR (National Institute Of Health Research) University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre "Blood pressure when someone is asleep is a strong predictor of heart disease. "
Note that blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day depending upon your activity. If you find it high once, have it tested several times throughout the day.
