Hi Friends,

Almost all of us know fat is bad for health but there are some kind of fat that our body needs and uses so we cannot replace fat completely from our diet. But with some awareness we can replace bad fat with good fat. Bad fat harms our body ,on the other hand good fat is what our body needs and uses. Trans Fat is one of the bad fat. It increases the level of Bad Cholestrol (LDL) and lowers the level of Good Cholestrol (HDL) . This increases the risk of heart diseases and strokes.

.

Trans fat is also known as 'Partially Hydrogenated Oil' and as the name suggests it is hydrogenated vegetable oil. The process of hydrogenation thickens vegetable oil which in turn gives good taste and texture to the food. Food outlets use these trans fat because this oil can be used for many times in deep frying.

Trans fat is found in almost all kind of foods. Fried food like french fries, wafers, etc., and baked foods like pastries, biscuits, pizza dough contains trans fat. Its a good practice to check the nutrition information on the pack before buying anything on the counter. Choose 'ZERO TRANS FAT' and ignore the items with Partially Hydrogenated Oil.

Trans fat occurs naturally in meat and dairy products. But if these naturally occurring fat is harmful for health or not is not clear.
