Hi Healthies,

After covering Blood Pressure we are going to cover one of the other life long incurable problem Diabetes.  It is the other fast immersing problem now a days. Behavior of a hormone, INSULIN, made by beta cells of Pancreas is responsible for it.  Insulin regulates the level of glucose in the blood and stimulates the body cells to absorb extra glucose in the blood for energy they need.  It also stimulates liver to absorb and store excess glucose in the blood.

Diabetes are of three different types which depends upon the behavior of the Insulin hormone -

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is common in young generation especially in teens and people below 40 years. Due to disorder in the Immune system of the body, it attacks and destroys cells in the pancreas that produce Insulin.  As no Insulin is produced at all, glucose in the blood rises rapidly and can severely damage the blood vessels.

Insulin injections are given to the person suffering from Type 1 diabetes for throughout his life.  Person is advised to adopt healthy lifestyle and go for regular blood checkup.

Type 2 Diabetes

Insulin produced is not enough to control the glucose level in blood or the body cells stop responding to the insulin properly, these distractions from the normal behavior leads to excess glucose in the blood and person suffers from type 2 diabetes.  This type of diabetes is more common than type 1 diabetes and is generally found in older people.

Person suffering from Type 1 diabetes is advised to adopt healthy lifestyle and monitor his blood glucose regularly.  Type 2 diabetes progresses with time so medication may be required to keep the blood glucose in control.  Obese and overweight people are more susceptible to this kind of diabetes.

Gestational Diabetes

Some women develops high blood glucose level during pregnancy.  If this increase in blood glucose level cannot be controlled by Insulin properly, it gives rise to Gestational Diabetes. This increase in blood glucose, if not treated properly, develops health problem in the unborn baby.  It generally develop during 14-26 weeks of pregnancy.  So it is advised to keep the blood glucose level in check during pregnancy.

Although Gestational Diabetes disappears after delivery, but it increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in their life.
