CARE FOR TATTOOED SKIN AND SUNSCREEN OPTIONS

Tattoo looks cool and beautiful on skin but they are not really safe and needs extra care.  Pay attention if you are getting sunburn, rashes, scars or any kind of infection on the tattooed skin.   Always get the tattoo from the safe place.  Ultraviolet rays do not only damage your skin but will fade the ink of the tattoo.  So dermatologists recommend to take special care of tattooed skin to keep a tattoo or permanent makeup looking its best.

Like we say in every article about skin care that sun rays are never good for your skin, it damages

tattooed skin too.  To prevent your skin from sun damage apply sunscreen that gives you UVA and UVB protection and has an SPF 30 or higher before going outdoors.  Permanent eyeliner and lip color should also be protected from sun by wearing wide-brimmed hat and lip balm with Broad-spectrum protection and high spf.  The sunscreen you use should be water resistant too otherwise sweat on the skin will wash out all your sunscreen.  Always read the instruction on the sunscreen before applying.  Apply the sunscreen 20 minutes before going out to get the best from it.

Newly tattooed skin is very sensitive.  If your skin is getting rashes or sunburn then cover your tattooed skin with cloth before going outdoors.  Tattooed skin can get intense sunburn, especially if contain yellow or red ink.  But care is needed for other colors too.

If your tattooed skin feels dry apply water based lotion or cream as petroleum based cream can fade the ink of the tattoo. 

If you feel any change on the tattooed skin, visit your dermatologist immediately.  A tattoed skin can get reaction at any point of time.  Sometimes it happens immediately after getting the tattoo and others may get it after months or years later.  Visiting your dermatologist can tell you the real cause of the reaction and way to be taken for treatment.

A research shows that seventeen percent of those with tattoos had considered getting the tattoo removed.  If you are one of

them and want to remove your tattoo,  never try to remove tattoos with readily available kits.  Some of these kits contain acid that can damage and injure your skin permanently.  At any point of time if you want to remove your tattoo, visit your dermatologist to give you the best solution.  Most of the dermatologists use laser to remove the tattoo, which break the tattoo into small particles and then remove it.  Some tattoos can be removed completely especially those in Dark blue, red, some lighter blues and green inks.  Best candidates for tattoo removal are people with light skin who have a black ink tattoo.  Sometimes tattoo removal require more than one sitting.  Other options are dermabrasion and surgical removal.  Only dermatologist can determine which method is best.

Wait to get a tattoo if you are pregnant. It could develop any risk for developing baby.

Get the tattoo on the mole-free skin.  Getting the tattoo on or near the mole can make make it difficult to recognize the early signs of skin cancer or melanoma, which can be treated 100% if identified at the early stage.

TIP -  

Getting a temporary tattoo is better than permanent tattoo as in later ink is induced to the second layer of the skin otherwise it will fade away.  On the other hand temporary tattoo can be applied easily and washed away when you are bored.  Avoid getting heena tattoos available on the roadside or market as they sometimes contain a dangerous long-lasting black chemical which can cause itchy skin, blistering, or even a scar.
